Questions: why is keeping a blog important?

After asking a few people for ideas about my blog I got a few interesting suggestions back and will spread them out over three weeks.

This is the first question I got and has had me thinking of an answer for four nights, but I finally have one.

So why is keeping a blog important to me? Well personally I think that it helps me reach people on a way that doesn’t intimidate them. Generally I find it difficult to find my words in person and end up saying something stupid and awkward, with a blog I can edit and revise each post before making it public meaning no awkward statements or questions.

Another reason that blogging is important for me is practice. Since I plan to write a novel getting used to writing grammatically correct is useful and will help when it comes to structuring the novel.

In September I will be starting a media course at university as I wish to get in to journalism as well as film making so writing on a consistent basis will help me transition in to a university work load of even a journalists work load.

Keeping track of my life is important for me, blogging is my equivalent of taking pictures. Blogging is my souvenir from an event, show or film. From everything I do I get a story that I can share on my blog and hopefully give you something entertaining to read.

However the most important thing for me is fun. I enjoy writing blog posts and it’s the one time of the week I get to take my mind of everything else and focus on the things that make me happy by sharing then with you.

Thank you to Daniel Conn for the question. If any of you have a question you’d like me to answer feel free to comment below or go to the “contact” section of my blog.

Interesting that you answer it this way. Your answer is very personal and is why is keeping a blog important for YOU. From YOUR perspective. This is of course interesting as you are the only one with such a perspective.
However, I am curious as to what a more general answer might be. Reasons you might give to someone who was considering writing a blog? Advantages or benefits that maybe don’t apply to you but could apply to others? I know one friend, for example, who mainly uses his blog to record fictional writings such as short stories. What does it mean for it to be written for the world to be able to see it, but for few to actually notice? What is it like when someone does take notice?

That is a very valid point. I actually had already planned a follow up post going in to why people should start blogging so I will take your comment in to consideration when writing it.
