The Kindness of Friends

There are very few moments in my life that actually give me faith in the kindness of humans, but recently I have encountered a few moments of genuine human kindness with in my friends. If you have been here for a while you will remember this post where I talk about how a stranger did a kind thing for me, well this is even more special because it came from people I love.

I am not saying that my friends aren’t normally nice – they are all lovely – I am just saying that they don’t normally surpass the level of niceness that puts my faith back in to humanity. There are a couple of stories so I will tell them in order of happening starting with my best friend.
So I was having quite a bad week for a number of reasons and I emailed my best friend telling her everything that was wrong – a few hours later she was booking train tickets for me to come see her in Dundee (which I am determined to pay her back for). This is possibly the nicest thing anyone have ever done for me (except everything my mum does for me). The fact she had the sense to realise I needed a best friend is amazing in itself, never mind actually PAYING for the tickets as well. Genuine kindness.
To understand this next story I have to tell you that I have an awful habit of letting people down last minute…all the time. This may be a small thing, but it meant an awful lot to me. Basically I pulled out from seeing a friend last minute due to getting an opportunity that would be great for my CV (work often comes first with me) and he was absolutely fine with it – not even a “but we organised it” just a “that’s fine :)” It is clear that he is a great friend to realise that I don’t mean any harm by it, but I just really appreciate him for not getting mad at me – it is very nice of him to understand my predicament unlike most people in my life.
I felt down for a few days, but these two simple gestures put me in an absolutely fantastic mood. Do you have any friends that would do this for you? I reckon I am a VERY lucky girl to have these people in my life.
