I know what you’re thinking. Why would you need phone signal in public restrooms?! I feel EXACTLY the same. Have you ever gone in to a public toilet and heard someone on their phone whilst on the loo? Crazy in theory – I mean no one wants to hear you in that private a moment but it is apparently a more common thing than I first thought.
The reason I bring this up has to do with the toilets in my local shopping center (when I say local I mean an hour away – as local as it gets where I stay). Personally I don’t even text whilst in the bathroom never mind call anyone because I feel like somehow they would still know where I had texted them from and it’s kind of an insult for them knowing you think about them when going to the bathroom. Seems creepy now, right? Anyway I was checking the time on my phone when walking in to the bathroom and noticed there was no signal in that spot (or anywhere else in the area) and I can’t help but think that was done on purpose just so people couldn’t talk on their phones in the bathroom. I have done it a few times since and it is always the same.
It is quite a genius way to keep people off their phones for a few minutes, or just to stop them phoning their mates mid-pee even if it probably wasn’t intentional. Another brilliant thing it does is bring people back to reality, sometimes all we need is a little bit of time AWAY from all these bloomin’ screens and online lives we create for ourselves. Personally for me being online can be somewhat stressful, particularly if lot’s of people are messaging me at the same time so I love an excuse to get away from it all.
Of course I know this is a complete coincidence, but it’s quite a fun thing to think about!
