The excitement of landing a first date is a feeling we don’t get often. A lot of online chats end abruptly or don’t end up going much further. Those butterflies in your stomach is a feeling like no other. It’s also a good indication that you’re definitely meeting the right person. So you’ve landed the date, picked the location and time. What now? It’s time to get ready for your date. Whether it’s an online meeting or in person (COVID restrictions permitting) you’ll still want to look and feel great for the person you’re meeting.
How To Prepare For A First Date
Be Prepared To Talk
If you get filled with social anxiety when you have to talk, it’s time to practice with some friends before the date. Remember that a first date is to get to know the other person better and see if you feel a future with them. They will be doing the same with you. If you ask them about your childhood, expect to be answering questions about yours too. Don’t just prepare small talk to get you through, if you truly want a connection to be formed with your Birmingham Dating site find be prepared to get to the deep stuff too.
Pick A Nice Outfit For Your First Date
Even on an online, video call date what you wear can make a huge difference. You want to be comfortable whilst feeling confident. Trust me when I say that confidence will not only make you feel at ease, but make you so much more attractive. If you’re uncomfortable you’ll spend the whole time fidgeting and feeling like they are noticing the flaws in your outfit. This isn’t endearing and it certainly won’t help you feel at ease.
Check Your Dating Profile
Double check your dating profile. Is there anything that you haven’t put on there that the other person should know about before you meet them? You don’t want to have an amazing date, but they decide they can’t commit because of something you ommited from your Birmingham Dating site profile. This can be stuff like being a single parent or travelling a lot for work. Dating is about making yourself look good, but not misleading people.
Remember Past Mistakes
If you’ve had some really bad dates in the past, is there anything you could have done differently? Now is your chance. It’s not easy to admit to being the reason a date hasn’t worked out, but sometimes it’s simply the case. Whether you asked them questions that were too personal or wore something uncomfortable. These are easy fixes, as long as you aren’t changing your personality for them.
Get Some Tunes On
You probably want to come across as fun and confident on your date. This is great and really easily achieved. Get the most upbeat, enjoyable song on and have a small dance around before going on your date. I mean the “Girls just want to have fun” or “I want to break free” types of songs that really make us want to get up and have a boogie. They’ll leave you feeling on top of the world and help you forget about your nerves.
Enjoy Your Date
Make sure that the activity you’ve picked for your meeting is enjoyable to you. If you don’t enjoy knitting and you’ve joined an online knitting class, maybe suggest something you do enjoy instead. If you aren’t having fun neither of you will have a good time and it will feel like time wasted. If when things open up you want to go to a restaurant together make sure it’s food you enjoy too.
Pamper Yourself
Putting your best foot forward is essential on a first date, and turning up clean and refreshed is a simple way to do this. Not only will you look and (hopefully) smell great, you’ll feel so much better in yourself. I know that I always get a small confidence boost when I take a nice long bath or shower. You could go as far as using a face mask a few hours before the date and using a bath bomb to truly relax.
Sort Your Hair Out
The pandemic has left us all with questionable hair dos. With hairdressers opening up again you could treat yourself to a nice haircut so you look amazing on your date. If this isn’t an option then spend time styling your hair until you’re happy with how it looks. This is another practice done to build your confidence before the date. If you think you look great, they’ll think you look great.
