It’s been a hard year for us all. Having been stuck inside for a lot of it, overall confidence has likely suffered (I know mine has). With restrictions easing there will be more opportunities to see family and friends or even go on dates, but with limited confidence, people may be more reluctant to go. So how do we build up our confidence again? There are many ways, but below are my favourites.

Ramp Up Your Self-Care
What better way to build up your confidence levels than to look after yourself better? If you feel amazing it will show. Prioritising self-care helps you feel in a generally better mood which makes it easier to build upon positive feelings. You can do stuff like using a bath bomb, writing in a journal, and going for walks.
Learn To Love Yourself As You Are To Build Up Confidence
This one is easier said than done. It’s also the most important when it comes to single disabled dating. When we fall into negative thought patterns it’s so easy to start hating different elements of ourselves. This is when we will lose our confident feelings, replacing them with negative feelings about ourselves. A way to learn to love yourself again is by using positive affirmations. This could be something like “I feel proud of myself when I *fill in the blank*” or “I trust I am on the right path”. Anything that builds you up as a person and gives you the confidence you need to succeed.
Remind Yourself Of Your Good Qualities
As stated above, when we’re in a negative mindset we can be cruel to ourselves. I urge you to write a list of all your good qualities on a bit of paper and read your list whenever you feel unconfident. If you’re struggling to think of any, ask your close friends to help. This should give you the boost you need to keep going and prepare you for any upcoming events or dates.
Compliment Yourself In The Mirror To Improve Confidence
Positive affirmation are really helpful, but are they sinking in? Are you truly saying them to yourself? This is a method I tried out recently and it made a massive difference to my confidence. Look yourself in the eyes and compliment yourself. “You look amazing today”, “You did really well today”. Anything that will help you build up your confidence on a day to day basis. The more you do it, the more you believe it.
Exercise For Enjoyment
Start exercising for enjoyment instead of the need to be healthy. If you’re not enjoying exercise, you won’t feel as good about yourself and your progress overall. It’s important to find an activity you really enjoy so you can leave classes or work out sessions feeling truly confident. This could be dance classes, spin classes of even Pilates. Search around and find what works best for you.
Talk About Yourself The Way You Would Your Friends
Think about the way you talk about yourself, and compare it to the way you talk about your friends. We’re very quick to jump in and say complimentary and kind things to our friends, but neglect ourselves. When you find yourself thinking in a negative way about yourself, stop that thought and change it to match what you would say about your friends in the same situation. You’ll be surprised at how different the 2 ways of talking really are.
Buy Yourself Some Really Flattering, But Comfortable Clothes
There is nothing worse than finding a stunning outfit that isn’t comfortable. You don’t want to be spending the entire date shuffling about or picking at your clothes. It’s important that we feel confident in what we’re wearing. If you find that you’re not excited about your wardrobe anymore, it’s time for a change. Try a new style out until you look in the mirror and feel sexy, comfortable, and most of all confident.
Remember That Everyone Is Different (And That’s Fantastic)
If you find yourself dwelling on the fact that you’ll never look like your favourite Instagram model, get yourself of Instagram for a while. Of course, you won’t look like them because you are you. A unique and wonderful person who deserves just as much praise and love as those Instagram models get. Here’s the big secret: anyone can do a professional photo shoot for social media that makes them look amazing, you have to think about what makes you stand out. And believe me, once you find that you’ll be so much more confident in yourself, you won’t be comparing yourself anymore.
