When setting up your dating profile you want to put your best foot forward. You pick out the most flattering photos, but what do you write? It can be hard to get your personality across using only words. It’s important to try and do this though because you want to be attracting the right people. It’s about asking yourself how much you want to share, what kind of people you want to meet, and what the best presentation of yourself is. Below I share my top tips for setting up the perfect dating site profile.
Writing The Perfect Dating Site Profile
It’s A Snapshot, Not A Biography
It’s vital that you remember that this is a snapshot of who you are, not a biography. If you overshare or it looks like you’ve written a book, people aren’t going to read it and will likely move on. So instead of saying something like “I was born in Aberdeen, but am not living in Dorset after many years residing in Edinburgh”, simplify it to something like “Originally from Aberdeen, now living in Dorset”. Think about the things you care about the most, i.e. any hobbies you have and put them in your Dorset Dating Site profile instead of your life story. People are much more interested in who you are now, not your childhood.
Get Help From Friends For Your Dating Site Profile
If you can think of the best way to describe yourself, ask your friends. I’m sure they will jump at the chance to help you set up your dating profile and find the perfect wording to entice the correct people. The great thing about friends is they’re likely to be honest with you and tell you whether you’re actually funny or not. They can also help you figure out what you’re looking for in a partner so you can get that part of the profile correct too.
Don’t Be Afraid To Show Your Weirdness
Your weirdness makes you stand out, so why hide it? You might even find someone who has a similar type of weirdness to you. It will make your profile come across as boring if you don’t show any weirdness at all. I know it’s important to put your best foot forward and try to avoid scaring people off, but do you really want to meet up with someone who will be scared off by your weirdness? No, you don’t. So if they don’t like it initially then don’t bother pursuing it further.
Don’t Lie On Your Dating Site Profile
There is no point in lying on your Dorset Dating profile. Lies always get caught out at some point or another. The thing with lying about hobbies, interests etc. is that it might be the thing that attracts someone to your profile. They may feel disappointed when they find out that isn’t the truth and then you end up with no date. It saves everyone time if you’re just honest in the first instance on your profile.
Talk About Who You’d Like To Meet, But Don’t Overdo It
It’s fine to say you’re looking for someone who likes going on hikes, or trips to the cinema. However, if you’re listing things like height, weight, hair colour, etc. then that will definitely be putting people off your profile. Think about the things you want to do with your partner as opposed to their personality or appearance. That way you might find someone who doesn’t fit your type but is 100% the right person for you.
If you state that you like to travel, that could mean anything from Disneyland to Canada. State the types of places you like to travel to and what you like to do on those holidays. If you say you like film, what kind of films do you like? It’s important to be specific about these smaller things. That way people can make a sound judgment on whether you’d be a good fit for them overall.
