We’ve been experiencing a lot of hot weather in the UK recently. Most of us are used to hiding indoors from the colder weather and rain, whereas some of us brave the bad weather anyway. Either way we need to take advantage of it while it’s here because it will disappear before we know it. As we go about our daily lives, it can be easy to forget to enjoy what we have when we have it. I’ve put together a list of things you can be doing to make the most of the sunny weather and enjoy the company of your friends and family!
How To Make The Most Of The Hot Weather
Pin for later:
Set Up A BBQ
Invite your favourite people round for a nice barbeque. There is nothing better than a barbecue in the nice weather. Get som burgers (veggie or meat, whatever your diet is) fire up the gril and get the drinks flowing. This is obviously better if you have a garden, but there are plenty of parks around that let you have disposable BBQs. The other great thing about barbecues is that they can be as COVID safe as possible with outdoor meetings and couples can bring their own food/utensils to use. You can even invite your friends who have dogs and get some playtime with them for ultimate TLC.
Organise A Picnic
This is great for the same reasons as a BBQ. It’s COVID safe, you can invite your friends and have great food! I’d recommend buying a picnic blanket because you never know when a spontaneous picnic is the exact thing you need. Pick out/make some great food and head out for great conversation with friends…or even a date. There are plenty of places you can have a picnic, the park, your garden, the beach…anywhere you can sit down and eat food is basically perfect. If you’re going on a picnic date, you should pick a nice river setting for a nice romantic day.
Go For A Woodland Walk
Take advantage of the fact it isn’t raining by putting on your trainers and going for a nice woodland walk. It could be a great way to get the whole family out of the house, or a nice romantic date walk. Research the best woodland walk locations. This is a great place to pack a picnic as well! Find a trail that leads to a nice sitting down area and get active. Even if it ends up being a solo walk, make the most of it by taking photos or listening to a fantastic podcast. If you’re feeling up to it, a nice run may even help you feel productive and help you sleep better.
Get Your Camera Out
Practice your photography skills. When better to pick up a photography hobby when you want to be out enjoying the sun? You won’t have to worry about your kit getting soaked in the wet weather. If you’re really commited, you can eithe rget up really early or stay up later to catch that idealistic photo of the sunrise or sunset. It’s always good to continue with a hobby in the hot weather so you aren’t tempted to become unproductive and be hard on yourself about it. Photography is an easy hobby to pick up because we all have cameras on our phones now!
Go To The Zoo Or A Wildlife Park
Plan the perfect day out. A trip to somewhere like Edinburgh Zoo (which has giraffes again!) can be the perfect way to get people out of the house on a sunny day. It is more entertaining than a simple woodland walk and you might even learn a thing or two. Most zoos have restaurants and benches so you can grab a bite to eat or bring your own food and make it an all day event. This is especially fun if you have children, but can also be a fun thing to do with a date or some friends. If this isn’t quite your scene there are plenty of things like activity centers you can visit instead.
Find An Outdoor Bar/Restaurant
A pint of beer or cider in a beer garden can be the perfect thing to top off a sunny day! There also a lot more options to dine outside these days (for obvious reasons). It’s also a great way to catch up with friends, or even make new ones. It might not sound great to eat your restaurant food outside, but trust me, most places have umbrellas or coverings to keep the bad things away from your food. Besides, you’re willing to eat barbecue food outside, why not your favourite Indian restaurant food too?
Draw/Read In The Park
Sunbathing in the park during hot weather may feel like an obvious option, but catching up on your reading is a great use of the time you spend in the sun. If you’re an artist you can take advantage or the weather and the people out in the weather to catch up with some drawing! Even if you aren’t an artist but have the urge to draw, pick up a new hobby. You can pick a nice flower and take in all the details for your drawing. If reading and drawing aren’t your speed, think about an audiobook or a podcast as you relax in the sun.
Take A Dip In The River/The Sea In The Hot Weather
There is no better way to feel refreshed during the hot weather than to go for a fun swim in a river or the sea. If you’re not a swimmer, even just put your feet in the water, or go shell collecting in the less deep parts of the sea. Even bulding sand castles near the sea can be a fun activity, especially if you have kids…but also for adults! A dip in the water will feel even better if you’ve gone for a walk to get there first. Find a woodland walk that has a river at the end, or walk along the beach a bit. This can be a really romantic thing to do with a date too.
Go Camping In The Hot Weather
Camping is especially fun in the warm weather because you can enjoy the outdoors without having to layer up. This cna be paired up with a good BBQ with friends. Having those nice evenings in the outdoors can really bring you closer to people. Find a nice secluded area so that you can make some noise, such as playing music from a bluetooth speaker or generally having a great time with friends. This is another fun COVID safe activity because each person can bring their own tent and supplies.
